Opening Ceremony Images
Thursday, 15th September 2011 at 3pm saw the opening of the Leicester People's Photographic Gallery.
The day started early for Gallery Manager Ian Davies putting the final touches to an already amazing achievement of getting the gallery in shape. It has taken Ian and his helpers just 8 weeks to clear a small mountain of rubbish, make good the walls and paint.
The simple fact of the matter is, the Gallery is open, amazing and already exhibiting tremendous work by its members and the Leicester Mercury who's local photographic artists have allowed for the exhibition to be a resounding success.
Leicester Peoples Photographic Gallery
Here it is, the website for the gallery. True to form it also belongs to you, so submit articles, links to your own sites, information about exhibitions, reviews about images you have seen, exhibitions within the gallery and much more. Share the highs and lows, victories and defeats. Help to build a resource that will become the most looked at by all photographers for the place to come, to gain info, look at what images are popular at the moment or just to spend some time here and browse. It is your website, so visit and enjoy as it is built from the ground upwards. Thanks everyone Ian.
Opening Day
The Leicester Peoples Photographic Gallery is scheduled to open on the 15th September 2011 from 3pm until 9pm.
Leicester is a vibrant, culturally mixed and inspirational place. Some of the best photographers around regularly contribute images to the pages of The Leicester Mercury, the city’s newspaper, and here they present their images of our city.
Sometimes moving, often humorous but always vivid and arresting, these are personal views, images that are more about emotion and personal points of view than just news.
Inspiring other photographers – both amateur and professional - from across the city and beyond, to take photographs of their home and share their stories, points of view and ideas, this inaugural photography show brings you the best of what’s on offer today, and raises the curtain on the Leicester People’s Photographic Gallery and it’s programme of both open and touring exhibitions.
We hope you enjoy this exhibition and are inspired to take up the challenge of creating your own stunning images.
